How to Succeed at Being a Mompreneur
How do you do it? I get this question all the time. I started Josie and Sons, a personalized jewelry company in May 2018. I operate this company independently while raising my two sweet boys Elijah (11) and Izaiah (4). My boys are my inspiration, motivation and driving force to starting my own business. I needed to show them that with hard work, dedication, and passion they too are able to obtain their goals.
My boys witness Mommy working day and night making handmade nameplate necklaces, bracelets and statement earrings. I also dedicate time on the administration side of running the business. I’m needed full time for my business and full time as a mommy. I can honestly say I absolutely love both roles.
Allow me to take you back to the pre-launch of Josie and Sons. It was for many years I wanted to start a business and came up with all the excuses in the world not to. I’m 35 now which is way too old to start a new career, what time would I have working 9-5 and also juggling all of my other responsibilities. Excuse after excuse for so many years. The passion to start a business was so deep inside me I just couldn’t shake it off. You can say it was what I'm destined to do, but “I” was the only person stopping myself from making it happen. I just didn't believe in myself and in my ability to make the moves necessary to make it happen.
I was discussing with a friend of mine how I wanted to open a jewelry business, but I had so many what-ifs. She suggested go ahead and pick a launch date that seems feasible and work towards that date. I thought to myself how can I make this happen? I have no clue on what steps to take to open or run a jewelry business online along with still juggling all my other responsibilities. I was able to overcome my insecurities and just do what I love.

Mompreneur Secret #1
Believing in yourself is the numero uno rule to being a successful Mompreneur. I had to believe that I had all the skills needed to start and run Josie and Sons. Of course, you may not have all the knowledge at first to be able to even start the business but make the moves to educate yourself and apply what you learned to make it happen. Knowledge is Power!
Mompreneur Secret #2
Balance, Balance, Balance! Balance is EVERYTHING! It’s so important to balance your time between your business and family. Starting and running a business does not mean you need or have to neglect your family. I don’t want to miss out on spending quality time with my boys especially while they are growing up super-fast. I make sure to set specific dates and times to dedicate to my business and time to dedicate to my boys.
Mompreneur Secret #3
Starting a business doesn’t happen overnight. I wish it did lol, then I would have started this process a long time ago. Creating schedules and routines is the most effective way to get things done and carving out time to spend with the kiddos. So for me, I wake up at 5:30 am every morning and tackle a couple tasks before the boys wake up to get ready for school or during the weekend. In the evening, I also tackle other tasks while the kids play. I dedicate the rest of the evening to my boys and they have my full attention.
Creating a Daily ‘To Do List’ and tackling them one by one, day by day has been the key to my success. Trust the process and have lots and lots of patience. Learn to enjoy the journey and believe your daily actions will create a successful business in the long run. Greatness takes time so believe in yourself and what you are creating to share with the world.
